Rowan Magazine 68 features three inspiring stories–SEAMLESS, with a focus on top-down and in-the-round designs, HOMEWEAR, a mixture of accessories and knitwear for the home and its occupants, designed by Erika Knight, and CITY TWEED, a collection of relaxed designs in classic shapes by Martin Storey.
Seamless
Abbortsford -This pretty raglan cardigan, designed by Vibe Ulrik from the top down, has a lovely all-over open lacework pattern. Knit on larger needles in two strands of Alpaca Classic, it’s perfect for Autumn layering.
Bunloit – This cropped poncho, designed by Martin Storey in Felted Tweed Aran, features a striking geometric cables pattern that wends it’s way from the lower edge to the neckline. The cosy ribbed polo neck will keep you warm whatever the weather.
Caerlaverock – Lisa Richardson’s striking maxi-length women’s coat features distinctive vertical stripes created with two strands of Alpaca Classic. After knitting the back, the fronts are picked up and knit on. The short sleeves are added in the same way. It looks great as a flowing coat or as a belted jacket.
Cawdor – This generously sized poncho is a gorgeous example of sideways construction and the impact of placed cables. Designed by Martin Storey, this Felted Tweed Aran cape features a large leaf cable across the shoulders and along the arms. Moss stitch trims the edges.
Culzean – Lisa Richardson’s cosy belted tunic is knit in luxurious Alpaca Classic, making this wonderfully soft to touch. The centre panel features side panels that are picked up and knit, with a space left for the belt. A generous ribbed cowl and moss-stitch edges finish it perfectly.

Hamilton – Knit from the top down, this lovely sweater, designed by Vibe Ulrik, is worked in a strand each of Alpaca Classic and Felted Tweed held together to create a marled effect. Cables define the front and back raglans, and extra cables placed to slope down the back is an unexpected surprise.

Kellie – Kellie is a bright and fun Fair Isle sweater designed by Kristen Tendyke. Worked from the top down in Aplaca Classic, it features a striking take on traditional yoke sweaters, with the motif echoed at the neckline, hem and cuffs.
Kincardine – Knit from the top down in Felted Tweed, this sleeved capelet features pretty feminine detailing and embroidery around the neckline. A rolled hem finishes the ribbed edges. Designed by Galina Carroll.
Kinross – This cleverly constructed asymmetric wrap, designed by Georgia Farrell in Alpaca Classic, has fabulous directional garter stitch colour block details. A stepped border creates the perfect finish.
Manderston – Designed by ARNE & CARLOS in two richly contrasting shades of Felted Tweed, this fitted top-down jumper features an overblown Fair Isle design that references the classic folk art motifs of Norway.
Mellerstain – This beautiful top-down sweater, designed by Amy Gunderson, feature fair isle bands that are a kaleidoscope of colour. Worked in sumptuously soft Alpaca Classic.
Skibo – Skibo is a universally flattering poncho designed by Martin Storey.
